About
The translation is one of the most fundamental of human activities, allowing us to interact with one another within and across cultures. Covering fundamental Theories of Translation but concentrating on the most Practical Aspects, TESOL Canada offers a wealth of applicable tips and a broad understanding of the nature of translation in an increasingly multilingual world. When you think of a professional translator, the first image that comes to mind is that of professional interpreters in the European Union or the United Nations. Although distinctively separate, most people associate Interpretation with Translation. In today’s growing multicultural societies of metropolitan cities such as New York communities, London main squares or Istanbul’s cultural centres we tend to see more foreign speakers than ever before. All communities living, studying and working side by side radiates the image of Translation. In fact, without translations communities could not coexist, a United Nations would not be able to function, and the entire political administration would fall apart. Diverse faces that we see in the street are the faces of Translators and Interpreters in one way or the other. They are just not Translators by Profession. An acceptable translation is far more complex than the above. In addition to language fluency, it requires complete cultural knowledge. Considering all the above, Education Canada College has designed a CIT Translation program that is acceptable by the United Nations LCELinks to an external site. board, practical by all standards of the profession, and straight to the point when dealing with professional tasks at work.
Graduates of CIT may work in Government Offices, Judicial System and Court Rooms, Healthcare and Insurance Organizations, Engineering and Science, Arts and Media, and may participate in taking the United Nations Language Competitive ExamsLinks to an external site. for professional translators and interpreters.
The following CIT Translation program is for online studies. Students are set to study their referred texts & material and pass the final exam prepared by TESOL Canada. This course is projects based. Students must complete four assignments and email them to TESOL Canada. The final marks will appear on students’ transcripts.
Subject to the depth of study, CIT is attainable in three different standards of Advanced CIT Certificate, CIT Diploma, and CIT Postgraduate Diploma.
- Modules I to IV will deal with Advanced CIT Certificate.
- Modules I to VI will complete the CIT Diploma.
- Modules I to IIX will reach the Postgraduate Diploma Level.

Projects To Complete:
The first project is about Interpretation Skills. Students shall record news broadcast, an interview with famous figure person (Pop star, politician…), or merely a radio broadcast, and then interpret (Simultaneous Translation) the message from the first language to the second language. The interpretation shall take place after every paragraph (short talks) completed and not after every sentence. Each recording should be an MP3 file of 3 to 5 minutes. The second recording shall include an interpretation from the 2nd language to the 1st language.
(i.e. Five minutes English to the 2nd Language, and five minutes from the 2nd Language to English)
The second project is the Official Documents Translation. Students are to translate two documents from the first language to the second language, and two from the 2nd language to the 1st language (total 4). These documents can be immigration papers, driver’s license, birth certificates, passports, transcripts and so on.
The third project is about Interactive Media Translation. It is the translation of websites, advertising pages, slogans, logos or books cover pages. It is mandatory that students translate at least four projects in this section, two from the first language to the second language and the other two from the second language to the first language.
The fourth project is the News and Journals Translation. This section of the projects deals with the ability of the students translating reports from daily newspapers or journals. Articles shall be more than 500 words one from the 1st language to the 2nd language and the other vice versa. We recommend that students try to translate business proposals and agreements such as lease terms and conditions for this section as well.
The fifth project is Website Content Re-Creation by Machine Translation. The goal is therefore to introduce techniques and the technologies of automatic translation by machine. Using available Ai and Machine Learning techniques you will be introduced to translate webpages, course modules and study chapters. The Machine Translation is part of DORA award and research study designated to CIT students. Most of our students complete this project by re-creating websites based on the content in the original language. If you are translating from English to French, Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese or Spanish, you will need to translate the English phrases directly but add content or modify content that relates to the target language.
Projects shall be ready in no later than two weeks after their introduction sessions. Once assignments are complete, students shall email them to TESOL Canada for evaluations.
Evaluated final marks will appear on the student’s transcript.
